sad.gif is a team of curators, formed in 2015. It is comprised of artists, researchers, and laptops. Though its members change from time to time, the teams goal remains to embrace media art by fully accepting the presence of technology in art.

2015’s focus was to subvert the conventional use of .gifs, and to instead advocate the format as a medium capable of depicting refined content.  The first exhibit opening of Sad.Gif was at the Temple of the Cosmic Mothership on April 16th, 2015 in Richmond, Virginia. For more information about that show go here.

The sad.gif team carefully curates a selection of .gifs. The team aims to create a show to subvert the sweepingly casual nature of the .gif, championing the format to be appropriated and pushed to new and astounding artistic heights.
